Sony has unveiled its annual list of the most downloaded games on its PlayStation platforms for 2024. Interestingly, there hasn’t been much change from the year PSVR 2 debuted, which isn’t entirely unexpected.
Now approaching the two-year mark, PSVR 2 has faced some criticism for receiving less attention than its predecessor, particularly following its launch in February 2023. This is due to the noticeable shortage of exclusive titles and strong developer backing. However, fans of the PS5-linked VR headset might beg to differ.
PSVR 2, despite some criticism, is a robust headset that enables developers to achieve higher render resolutions and better visual detail compared to Meta’s Quest 3. It also supports PC VR games, thanks to a wired adapter released by Sony in June. Nevertheless, when it comes to game downloads on the PlayStation Store, the numbers tell the real story.

Topping the charts in North America and Europe, Beat Saber (2018) remains incredibly popular and is certainly not a negative reflection on the platform. It’s an ideal starting point for newcomers. Notably, the only games from 2024 to make it onto the list were Metro Awakening by Vertigo Games, which was released in November, and Legendary Tales by Urban Wolf Games, whose much-anticipated 1.0 release arrived in February after a significant Early Access phase on Steam.
It’s worth mentioning that Arizona Sunshine 2 (2023), a remarkable zombie shooter sequel by Vertigo Games, hit the shelves in December 2023, so it had limited time to climb the charts last year.
