Alright, so there’s this game coming out called Drag x Drive, or maybe it’s Drag “and” Drive—I kinda zoned out during the trailer—but here’s the juice. It’s a new jam for the Nintendo Switch 2, which, let’s be honest, I didn’t see coming. And get this, you’re playing wheelchair basketball with—wait for it—mouse controls. Yeah, I was scratching my head too. No clue how that works, but hey, Nintendo’s full of surprises, right?
So they drop this juicy, 7-minute gameplay trailer—more info than I got studying for finals—for this sports vibe they’re pushing. You get to see the guts of it, like how you can pull off tricks and what shenanigans go on outside the main court. I mean, who really sticks to the main game anyway?
One thing I kept mumbling about was: What other modes are they sneaking in besides 3-on-3? Well, turns out, they got mini-games up their sleeves to keep things spicy, apparently. You know, switch it up between matches. Plus, there’s this online thing happening. You can train, or just throw down against bots if you’re feeling antiso—er, introverted. I meant introverted.
Okay, jot this down. Here’s the lowdown straight from Nintendo’s trumpet-blowing:
Sign in to host lobbies, mingle online—like everyone doesn’t do that already. Six folks jump in and bam, game starts! They cram 12 people into a Public Park. Or huddle up with your squad in Friend Parks, ditch the crowds, do your own thing. Two courts, so you don’t have to brawl for space. Friendly fights, and maybe some trash talk (gotta hope for GameChat).
Offline play’s a thing too. You against AI, sharpening those questionable skills. Oh, three driver types: Guard, Center, Forward—sounds like basketball, feels like… something funky. Mix and match until it clicks.
Crave for more chaos? Step away from dribbling and zip around in Circuit Sprint. And wacky stuff like Rebound Scramble and—did they say jump rope? Maybe I imagined it in my boredom.
Challenges earn you bling—trophies and flashy helmets to deck your driver out. Mix up your armor and go nuts with customization. Paint it crazy, slap your favorite number on there, glory in digital form.
Honestly, those features got me curious, but who here thinks this could be Nintendo’s next big hit? I dunno, maybe. Guess we’re riding the wait-and-see train. Shoot over your take on the trailer if you’ve got one.
Here’s a heads-up: if you can’t wait till launch, there’s this Global Jam teaser from August 9-10. And yes, you can download a demo and dunk with pals before everyone else jumps on board:
August 9, 3 am to 7 am PT, then again at 5 pm to 9 pm PT, and one more dash on August 10, 9 am to 1 pm PT.
Fingers crossed Drag x Drive doesn’t flop when it crashes onto the Switch on the 14th. Can’t say I’d put money on it, but, again, when has Nintendo been predictable?
