Alright, imagine this—you’re all excited about Nintendo’s Switch 2, right? Everyone’s buzzing, and then, boom! You hear about the screen. Yeah, apparently it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. I came across this review (no idea who this Chimolog dude is, but he’s got thoughts) that kinda ruined the moment for me. So, buckle up, here’s the lowdown.
First off, this supposedly amazing 1080p, 120 Hz, 7.9-inch LCD screen? Not so hot. The response time—whatever that means—is about 17.06 ms. Somebody said that’s bad. Why? Because, get this, the pixels are so slow they can’t keep up with a 60 FPS game. It’s like trying to run in a dream—super frustrating. And maybe I’m just easily annoyed, but how does a gaming console screen lose to regular old monitors? The Innocn M2U monitor, with its crazy mini-LED thing, apparently kicks Switch 2’s butt.
Now, this is where it gets interesting—perhaps. The reviewer was all “Oh, sure, the screen’s got other nice things like great contrast and brightness.” Like, sure, but do I care? Anyway, they threw out numbers like 1309:1 contrast ratio and stuff about color spaces. Feels like a math class, quite frankly.
What cracked me up a bit was this bit about text readability. Remember those wavy screens you sometimes see? Well, the Switch 2 seems to have a thing for making text look like it’s out of focus. Supposedly, that’s because of some fancy “special RGB” layout. Why? Ideas, but not real answers here.
Now, about 120 Hz gaming? Mystery unsolved. They didn’t check it. I think, maybe, higher refresh rates should mean faster response, right? But who really knows at this point.
Anyway, it’s not all doom and gloom. Even with this mega slow screen, people are still sprinting to buy these things. Like, they sold 3.5 million units in four days. Wild. But hey, maybe people just really, really love Nintendo games.
Fingers crossed for an OLED version though. Could be the solution to all our screen woes—or maybe just mine. Who knows?
