Civ 7’s UI Already Getting a Pre-Release Mod Fix

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 is set to officially release on Tuesday, but it’s already generated a notable amount of feedback from its eager players. Many have expressed their concerns about the complex user interface and the absence of some basic features carried over from previous versions. Responding to the feedback, Firaxis has outlined plans for forthcoming updates to address these issues. Meanwhile, one enthusiastic player who has been exploring the game’s early access has already developed a mod to tackle some of these concerns.

Developed by Sukritact, the Simple UI Adjustments mod is a boon for players seeking ease and efficiency. It introduces useful tooltips when you hover over tiles, offering descriptions of wonders on specific tiles, smaller plot yield icons for undeveloped spaces, and even lets you start diplomatic interactions by simply clicking on another civilization’s city banners. These tweaks may seem minor, but they can save you the hassle of digging through the Civilopedia or navigating cumbersome menus to access information.

Although Civilization 7 isn’t out for everyone just yet, making mod access via Steam Workshop a challenge, installing this mod is fortunately straightforward. The process involves placing the required folder in your Civ 7 mods directory, typically located at “{user}\AppData\Local\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier’s Civilization VII\Mods.” Once everything’s in the right spot, you can verify its activation in the Mods menu under “Additional Content.”

Sukritact hasn’t stopped there. Despite the game only being available since February 6 for early access players, they’ve also crafted another mod that removes the unlock requirements for all civilizations, which are normally tied to your chosen leader and certain achievements across different ages.

It’s a bit of a letdown that features like renaming cities or units didn’t come with the initial release of Civilization 7, but given the rapid pace and creativity of the modding community, I suspect it won’t be long before these gaps are filled.
