The Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 has its allure with its impressive premium features. Users rave about the charging dock, commendable battery life, added edge from back paddles, and the joy of custom configuration. However, and this is a big however, I’m on my third one already. My fervor for Elden Ring managed to put two of these controllers out of commission. The right bumper on both my controllers is now unresponsive and the stick drift makes certain games like STALKER 2 frustratingly unplayable because of their finely-tuned sensitivity settings. It’s even more frustrating that Microsoft seems to be phasing out repairs for these in select markets, suggesting a potential successor is on its way.

It’s still a newcomer on the scene, but its tactile and clicky buttons inspire confidence that it won’t meet the same fate as my three Series 2 controllers.

My experience with Razer mice involves needing a recharge every day after a year.

However, I’d rather charge more frequently than run into non-working bumpers, a scenario that seemingly all Xbox Elite Controller Series 2s are doomed to face. My standard Series 2 and the one from the Xbox Design Lab have both succumbed to the same relentless issue.

Moreover, it’s quite disappointing that Microsoft is no longer providing repair options. When seeking a fix through Microsoft for mine, I was met with a discouraging “service not available in your area” message. Being based in Europe, this might be locale-specific, but it’s not reassuring, regardless of your region.
