Oh man, where do I even begin with the whole Cybershoes saga? So, picture this: a company in Austria made these funky VR shoes, like roller shoes for virtual worlds. Seriously, wild stuff. Anyway, they’ve apparently shut down. Word got out from some guy, Antony ‘Skarred Ghost’ Vitillo — love that name, by the way. He mentioned production stopped two years back. So, yeah, not exactly a shocker, right?
By 2024, one of their branches just poofed away, and by April 2025, the whole thing was done. Kaput. Igor, who co-created this thing, dropped the news on LinkedIn — really keeping up with the times, huh?
Now, the nitty-gritty of all this legal mumbo jumbo isn’t clear. Austrian companies are supposed to spill the beans within 60 days if they’re drowning in debt or whatever. I mean, if you care about that sort of thing. Dunno about you, but I’m not exactly refreshing legal sites daily for updates.
These Cybershoes weren’t your typical treadmills you see in sci-fi movies. No, they were rollers for your feet while you’re sitting. Like, you could kick back in your chair and pretend you’re jogging or something — all while looking ridiculous, I imagine.
Anyway, they kicked things off back in 2018, doing okay-ish without big money from venture folks. Got over €200,000 on Kickstarter for their PC VR thing. Not bad! Then in 2019, hit up IndieGogo and snagged another €140,000. Trying to up their street cred or something.
Fast forward to 2020, they tried their luck with a Quest version on Kickstarter again. Didn’t do as hot — like half of what they pulled in the first time. Around $98,000 from 470 backers. So, yeah, not setting the world on fire.
If you’re looking to snag a pair, well, Amazon’s not your buddy here, and neither is their site. Stuff vanished around late 2024. Last I heard, Antony’s review is floating around out there if you’re curious.
And there you have it — a final farewell to those quirky shoe thingies. Who knew?
