It seems that Warner Bros has decided to pull the plug on a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy. According to a report from Bloomberg, this expansion was being developed to launch alongside a Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter-based action RPG, which was rumored to include fresh storylines.
The decision to cancel the expansion reportedly came from Warner Bros due to the content not meeting the value for the price they intended to charge. The development was in the hands of Avalanche Software, known for the original game, and Rocksteady was also contributing. Meanwhile, Avalanche is said to be working on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.
In other news, Rocksteady has faced some challenges, including recent layoffs, after they announced they would no longer support Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, which is set to release in 2024.
Warner Bros has been navigating tough times; last year, the gaming division was described as “substantially underperforming.” Alongside this, they wrote off a hefty $200 million for Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. The company has also shuttered three studios, including the renowned Monolith, and its longtime head, David Haddad, has recently stepped down.
