Their previous smash hit, Batman: Arkham Knight, came out back in 2015. Venturing into a live-service, co-op shooter reminiscent of Destiny was a bold and puzzling move for many gamers. This decision, after a significant delay, saw the game released in February 2024, only to receive a lukewarm reception, underwhelming sales figures, and dwindling player interest. The financial implications were significant, with Warner Bros. Discovery reporting a $200 million loss on the title.
