Hey, so Niantic Spatial just dropped their pet game hello-dot onto Quest 3. It’s like, mixed reality and stuff, and came out of early access, which is cool, I guess. Loaded with new tricks and features now. Yeah, Hello, Dot is what they call a “mixed reality showcase.” Lemme back up a second — this all started with their mobile AR deal, Peridot in ’23.
Now, apart from Hello, Dot on Quest 3, the folks at Niantic have cooked up more XR stuff. I mean, there’s Peridot Beyond for Snap Spectacles, Pause with Peridot, and Snap-a-Dot that works with Web AR — whatever that all means — and SunnyTune for Apple Vision Pro. They’re like, everywhere!
So, what’s new in Hello, Dot now that it’s out of early access? Let me just throw some features at you:
– Dots, but with personality! I mean, like, they do all these funny antics.
– Some arcade machine; you know, play dates for dots. Cute, huh?
– You can talk to it. Seriously, Gen AI lets you customize by just telling it what you want. Weird!
– Minigames too: Dotball (which is basically dodgeball with dots), Eating Contests, the works.
– Oh, there’s a nod to future stuff with Peridot AI or something.
Speaking of dots, there’s this picture of a dot store — looks whimsical, I guess? (Image courtesy of Niantic Spatial.)
Anyway, about that arcade machine. It’s packed with things to do. Play Dates, dodge-Dotball (yeah, sure), or stuffing dots in Eating Contests. All earns in-game moolah. Perfect for decking out your Dot in silly costumes and gadgets.
So, “big changes” means more than just games. You’ve got this guy Asim Ahmed (some bigwig, Global Product Marketing Lead-ish) saying they’re diving full force into making reality mixed, fiddling with tech makes our real-world spaces all magic-like or something? Quite a vision!
And, ah, there’s this Gen AI Dot customizer too. Just grab a virtual mic and say, “I want this color!” and… magic paint bucket transforms your Dot, ta-da!
You’re curious? Head over to the Horizon Store. It’s free for Quest 3 and 3S. Time to spice up your virtual journeys — have fun!
