Oh man, so there’s this wild thing happening in the world of handheld consoles, right? Some genius named Natalie Thenerd—I mean, what a name—decides to craft a Game Boy Color motherboard. But not just any motherboard. Nope. We’re talking a fully clear PCB. Like, you can straight-up see the copper circuits just hanging out in the open. I guess she threw her own schematics together to make this thing click, and ditched the ground zone to keep it all transparent. Honestly, who knew you could just do that and still end up with something functional?
And get this, she reverse-engineered the whole shebang by herself. DIY queen, much? Though, for the clear PCB wizardry, she had some third-party help since those things are made from this acrylic-like stuff. Oh, and it melts at like 200 degrees Celsius! So yeah, she had to be some kind of soldering ninja to not mess it all up.
But the plot thickens! It’s not just the PCB that’s see-through. The chips, the copper, even the screen (plus this tiny daughter board) are all out in the open, wearing nothing but their transparency. There’s even a cartridge reader, half-transparent of course, from some Chinese Game Boy knock-off. She then slapped it all into a clear shell with translucent keys. Can you say see-through swagger?
Now don’t start throwing money at your screen. This bad boy is a one-of-a-kind art piece. Seriously, no shopping spree here. And let’s be real, considering how fragile it is, I can’t imagine it surviving a gamer’s tantrum.
Some folks are tossing around ideas like swapping the copper for silver or jazzing it up with backlighting. You know, to take the cool factor up a notch. Natalie hangs out in the Modded Gameboy Club, so who knows? Maybe someone’s already cooking up their own version.
And don’t even get me started on the new obsession with clear gadgets. Ever heard of the Nothing Phone 2? Yeah, I’m lost too. Seems like transparent tech is making a comeback with clear power banks and whatever else. But unless they beef up these clear PCBs, don’t expect them at your local store anytime soon.
Still, you gotta hand it to Natalie. What a creation, right? This kinda stuff is exactly why modding is such a head trip. All hail creative chaos!
Anyway, back to whatever I was doing… oh right, marvelling at this transparent genius.
