HoYoverse, the brains behind Genshin Impact, just dropped a bombshell. The game’s donezo for PS4. Yep, you heard right. Updates? Gone by next spring. Plus, it’s getting the boot from the PlayStation store next month. By February 2026, all in-game purchases will poof into nothingness. In other words, it’ll be like the game never existed on PS4.
So, HoYoverse kicked things off by saying, “Due to limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size…” and yada yada, they’re axing Genshin Impact on PS4. Come September 9, 2025, you won’t even find it on the PlayStation Store. Haven’t grabbed it by then? Well, tough cookies, it evaporates from search results.
Then bam—February 25, 2026, rolls around. All your in-game buys? Vanish. If it’s sitting unclaimed, snag it before February, or wave it goodbye.
Fast forward to April 8, 2026, and guess what? You can’t even log in anymore. It’s a wrap. Except, not quite. You can still live out your Genshin dreams on Xbox Series, PS5, PC, or even on your trusty mobile. Funny thing is, this decision doesn’t really add up. HoYoverse probably thinks they’re giving PS4 players a heads up—but really, why does mobile get a pass if PS4 doesn’t? The PS4, from 2013, sure, isn’t new, but it’s no slouch either. Mobile requirements aren’t exactly light, right? It’s kinda wild that a decade-old phone can run it, yet PS4 bites the dust. Just saying.
When I asked HoYoverse, a spokesperson came back with the old line about “optimizing game performance” for future versions—whatever that means. They’re all about the ‘Song of the Welkin Moon’ version now, or something.
For most folks? Meh, not a drama. But those old Android phones? Might start sweating. Seriously though, it’s a raw deal for PS4 fans, like, what even is permanence in gaming anymore?
Oh, and by the way, HoYoverse updated me on this at 11:59 a.m. ET, dated 08/06/2025. Just keeping you in the loop.
