I Switched from Razer to an Alienware Headset After 5+ Years, and It Just Hit Its First Sale

Razer had long been my go-to choice for gaming headsets, especially with models like the Razer Kraken Ultimate, Kraken V3 series, and Kaira Pro enhancing my PC gaming experience. This October, though, I found myself captivated by an unexpected contender—the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Headset from Dell’s gaming-centric Alienware division. It was impressive enough for me to retire my cherished Razer headsets, tucking them away in storage.

Catering to gamers who prioritize exceptional sound, mic quality, comfort, and wireless performance, the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Headset launched with a significant $229.99 price tag. However, with Black Friday right around the corner, it’s now available at a discounted price of $199.99 directly from Dell, allowing for a neat 13% saving.

When we consider the most exciting Black Friday deals, Dell isn’t just offering discounts on headsets. They’re also reducing prices across a range of laptops, gaming PCs, and accessories, making it a worthwhile stop for tech enthusiasts. Meanwhile, other major retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and Target are slashing prices on a wide range of goods, from video games to electronics, ensuring there’s a deal out there for everyone. Similarly, Razer is in on the action with free shipping, while Samsung’s numerous holiday deals cover everything from laptops to TVs.

Switching focus back to the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Headset, the reasons for my endorsement are numerous. This headset rounds out Alienware’s 2024 accessory lineup, alongside their Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse and Keyboard. I’ve reviewed many headsets over the years, but this one is “the best wireless gaming headset I’ve used in years,” even surpassing my former Razer favorites like the Kraken V3 Pro HyperSense and the Kaira Pro.

What truly sets this headset apart is its microphone. While Razer’s mics often deliver average results, the Alienware Pro’s unidirectional mic is outstanding, capturing my voice with impressive clarity. This is crucial during those long Discord sessions, making it a game-changer in my gaming gear. Though its AI noise cancellation can be overly zealous, turning it off still blocks out background noise effectively.

The audio quality is another highlight, courtesy of its 50mm graphene-coated drivers that deliver a robust soundscape across a wide 20-40KHz frequency range. Whether it’s the bass, mids, or highs, each note is vividly reproduced. Although it lacks the HyperSense or Sensa HD Haptics of Razer models, it compensates with more powerful sound output.

The fit is snugger compared to Razer’s typically roomy design, but it feels lighter, an exchange I’m fine with. The adjustable headband and flexible design mean it fits various head sizes well, and the soft memory foam leatherette earcups enhance comfort for long gaming sessions. While I do miss the cooler, more airy feel of Razer’s earpads, Alienware’s offering is nearly as comfortable.

Aesthetically, Alienware has gone for a minimalist style, offering the headset in either a “Lunar Light” white or “Dark Side of the Moon” black, without flashy RGB. It’s well-designed, featuring essential onboard controls like a volume wheel, mic mute switch, active noise-cancelling toggle, and options to switch between 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth. Both connectivity methods have proven reliable, delivering nearly the advertised 70-75 hours of battery life with the noise-cancelling off, though it can also be used wired if necessary.

The absence of Xbox compatibility and mediocre ANC are minor drawbacks for me, given my preference for PC gaming and general disinterest in ANC. But if these features are crucial for you, you might look at other top PC gaming headsets. Otherwise, this one is a fantastic choice, especially at its current $199.99 price point. Since getting the review unit, I haven’t felt the need to return to my Razer headsets.

As for major shopping events, Black Friday officially kicks off on November 29, 2024, the day after Thanksgiving in the U.S. However, many retailers have already begun offering discounts to attract early shoppers. Holding off for potentially better deals on Black Friday could lead to finding some items out of stock, so it might be worth seizing the early deals.
