Yuji Horii’s got this charming tendency—let’s call it a mix of honesty and cheekiness. Seriously, the guy just can’t keep a lid on things.
So, picture this: we’re at some comic con in Napoli, Italy. It’s buzzing, fans everywhere, you know the drill. Yuji Horii, the dude behind Dragon Quest and part of the “Dream Team” for Chrono Trigger, is on stage. And, oh boy, does he drop a bomb. Talks about a remake for Chrono Trigger, which would be epic, right? It’s the 30th anniversary and everyone’s on the edge of their seats. But then, bam! He slaps his hand over his mouth. The translator is like, “You heard nothing,” and the crowd? They go wild. Can’t say I wouldn’t have done the same.
And the thing is, Horii’s done this kind of thing before. I mean, back in July 2015, he couldn’t help but let slip about localizing the 3DS versions of Dragon Quest VII and VIII. Like, VII was already old news in Japan, over two years! And then later, he casually mentions Dragon Quest XI hitting the “NX” platform—what we all know as the Switch now. Meanwhile, the announcement was only supposed for PS4 and 3DS. The man’s like a walking spoiler alert!
Then there’s March 11. Mark this date because it’s the day Chrono Trigger launched in Japan, all those years back. Square Enix jumps in with an announcement, teasing more anniversary celebrations. Specifics? Nada. They’re keeping it under wraps, unlike our friend Horii.
Sometimes, you just gotta love that mix of excitement and accidental news leaks. Makes waiting for these remakes, or whatever they’ve got brewing, just a little more fun, doesn’t it?
