Okay, so here’s the deal. Imagine FromSoftware, you know, the geniuses behind those crazy-hard “Soulsborne” games, decided to whip up something new. They went rogue, literally, with this co-op roguelike called Elden Ring Nightreign. And man, they pulled out all the stops with eight brand new “Nightlord” bosses.
So, let me tell ya about this one boss that really had me glued – Libra, Creature of Night. Picture this: a goat-headed monster, but before he gets all beastly, he’s standing there like a hooded human. I know, right? You’re expecting a fight, so you shoot an arrow. Dumb move? He just growls back at you about it being “unwise.” Yeah, not your typical boss, that’s for sure.
And here’s where it gets wild. Turns out you can chat with this guy and strike these weird, monkey’s paw-type bargains. One deal I tried? Got more levels, but each time I drank a healing flask, boom, lost a level. Guess you like living on the edge, right? You could totally skip the deals, but come on, where’s the fun in that?
Okay, quick side note – ever notice how some sounds just stick with you? Like the boss theme here, it’s a mix of violins and thunder, about as peaceful as a rainstorm with fireworks.
Alright, back to Libra. Once y’all make a deal, that’s when things pop off. He transforms into this demonic version of a goat (why is goat demon a vibe?) and launches magical attacks that crank up your Madness meter. If it maxes out, you’re just standing there, clutching your head, wide open to attacks. Good luck with that.
His attacks? They start with golden glyphs—bright and all—but he’s quick. It’s like he turns the whole place into some kind of magical bullet hell unless you’re in his face, pushing back. He’s swinging this giant staff, giving you chances to hit back. But of course, you’re gonna get zapped with Madness anyway because why not?
What’s cool, though, is when you’re picking up these little golden crystals on the ground. They’re like these lifesavers, cutting down your Madness and giving you some health back. Never saw anything like it in these games before. It’s a total game-changer, like, literally.
The craziest part? Libra, this big bad boss, is actually vulnerable to his own Madness. If you hit him with it enough, he goes bonkers, swinging wildly. He’s powerful in this state, but you dodge, and suddenly there’s your moment to strike back. Fire and Holy work on him too—just throwing that out there.
Now, Libra sometimes does this ritual thing, meditating with magic glyphs. It’s like he’s meditating or something. If you let him finish, his defenses get tougher. You can either break the glyphs (a bow’s handy for this) or smash through his magic shield. Do it right, and he goes into a frenzy, giving you another chance to clobber him.
Honestly, Libra is wild—a mix of mythology and madness—one of the most creative bosses from the devs. Out of all those Nightlord battles, he’s hands down my favorite. It’s a wild ride battling him, getting thrashed, and then trying again with friends, ’cause why not, right?
Elden Ring Nightreign? Definitely a bold move from FromSoftware. It fiddles with the Soulsborne formula by throwing in roguelike elements and a co-op twist. Not everything’s perfect like enemy variety, but it’s pretty high on my list this year. It’s a bit pricey but worth a look, especially with some promo code action to save a few bucks.
Anyway, if you’ve got some time, dive in and see what madness awaits—literally.
